How to Prep Your Vehicle Before a Detailing Appointment

How to Prep Car for Detailing – You booked your detail — great choice. Now you might be wondering if there’s anything you should do before the crew shows up. The good news is that mobile detailing is designed to be hands-off for you. We come to you, and we handle the work. But a few minutes of simple prep on your end helps the appointment go faster, smoother, and gets you an even better result.

Here’s a quick guide to getting your vehicle ready for detailing day.

Clear Out Your Personal Belongings

This is the single most helpful thing you can do. Take a few minutes to remove your personal items from the vehicle — the stuff in the cupholders, the change in the console, the sunglasses, the phone chargers, the paperwork in the glovebox, the kids’ toys, the gym bag in the back seat.

There are two reasons this matters. First, it lets your detailer clean every surface thoroughly instead of working around your things. Second, it keeps your valuables safe and accounted for. We’re always careful with personal items, but the best way to make sure nothing gets misplaced is to take the important stuff with you before we start.

If you’ve got loose change, receipts, and odds and ends scattered around, a quick pass to clear them out makes a real difference in how deep we can clean.

Remove Car Seats If You Want Underneath Cleaned

If you have child car seats and you want the seats underneath them detailed, it’s helpful to remove them before we arrive. Car seats are installed to your specific safety standards, and it’s best if you handle taking them out and reinstalling them so you know they’re secured correctly.

If you’d rather leave them in, that’s totally fine — just let us know and we’ll clean around them.

Take Note of Any Problem Areas

You know your vehicle better than anyone. If there’s a specific stain, spill, odor, or trouble spot you want us to focus on, make a mental note or jot it down so you can point it out when we arrive.

Maybe the kids spilled a milkshake in the back seat last month. Maybe there’s a coffee stain on the driver’s seat, or a spot where the dog always sits. Telling us about these upfront lets us bring the right approach and give those areas the extra attention they need. We’ll always do a thorough job, but a heads-up on the tough spots helps us knock them out.

Make Sure We Can Access the Vehicle

Since we’re coming to you, we need a bit of space to work. Before your appointment, think about where the vehicle will be parked and whether we’ll have room around it.

Ideally, park in a spot with a little room on all sides so we can move around the vehicle freely, open all the doors, and access every panel. A driveway, carport, or open parking area works great. If you’re in an apartment or have limited space, just let us know ahead of time and we can plan around it.

Consider Water and Power Access (We’ll Confirm)

Most mobile detailers, including us, come fully equipped and self-sufficient. But depending on the service, having access to a water spigot or an electrical outlet can sometimes be helpful. When you book, we’ll let you know if we need anything on your end. In most cases, we bring everything required and you don’t have to worry about it — but it’s worth confirming when you schedule.

Don’t Bother Pre-Washing It

Here’s one thing you do NOT need to do — don’t run it through a car wash or scrub it down before we arrive. That’s literally our job, and doing it yourself beforehand accomplishes nothing except wasting your time.

In fact, seeing the vehicle in its actual dirty state helps us assess what it needs and where to focus. So skip the pre-wash and let us handle the dirt. That’s what you’re paying us for.

Plan for the Time

Detailing isn’t a five-minute job — a quality detail takes time, and that’s a good thing. Depending on the service and the condition of the vehicle, it can take anywhere from about an hour to several hours.

The beauty of mobile detailing is that you don’t have to sit and wait somewhere. Since we come to you, you can go about your day — work, relax at home, run errands, whatever you need. Just plan to have the vehicle available and parked for the duration, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Let Us Know About Special Requests

If there’s anything specific you want — extra attention on the wheels, pet hair removal, odor treatment, protection like a wax or ceramic coating — mention it when you book or when we arrive. We offer a range of services and add-ons, and knowing what you’re after helps us make sure you get exactly the result you want.

That’s Really It

Mobile detailing is meant to be easy on you. Clear out your personal items, note any problem spots, make sure we can access the vehicle, and let us handle the rest. A few minutes of simple prep is all it takes to help your appointment go smoothly and get your vehicle looking its absolute best.

Then just sit back and enjoy having a freshly detailed vehicle without ever leaving home.
