Stage 3: Permanent Damage
If etching gets deep enough, it goes past what polishing can fix. At that point you’re looking at paint correction, wet sanding, or in the worst cases, a respray of the panel.

Dry the door jambs, mirrors, and trim. Water hides in these spots, then runs out onto clean paint later and spots it.
Use protection. A quality wax, sealant, or ceramic coating creates a barrier between the minerals and your clear coat. Water beads up and rolls off instead of sheeting and sitting. This dramatically reduces spotting and buys you time to dry before evaporation. Consider a filter or deionized water. Serious enthusiasts use a deionizing filter on their hose to strip minerals before the water ever hits the vehicle. It’s an investment, but it eliminates the root cause.
