What “Cloudy” Actually Means
Your headlight lenses are not glass. They are made of polycarbonate, a tough clear plastic that the factory coats with a thin protective film. That film is the only thing standing between the plastic and the sun.
Over time the coating wears away, and once it is gone the raw plastic is exposed. Sunlight then oxidizes the surface, roughing up what used to be crystal clear into a hazy, yellow, sandpapery finish. Add in road grit, bug splatter, and car wash chemicals, and the fog just gets thicker.
